Switching on village festivities
VILLAGE residents celebrated their Christmas lights switch-on with a socially distanced event. The lights around the cherry tree in Turn Village were turned on by brother and sister Lillia and Elliot Paintin.
Turn Village, near Ramsbottom, decided to spread some festive cheer by distributing selection boxes donated by Tesco Haslingden to all the children in the village.
Each box also contained a raffle ticket as well as chocolate, with Lillia drawing the winning ticket to switch on the Christmas lights.
Due to social distancing, residents weren’t able to gather as usual to mark the annual event.
Lillia and Elliot arrived in festive dress and Lillia was given a special prize of a penguin decoration and snow spray with stencils. After turning on the lights, the siblings turned their attention to decorating the bus shelter gallery in a snow scene.
Sharon Canavan, chairperson of Turn Village Residents Association, said: “Throughout the year our little village has held various projects to help lift our spirits, all socially distanced and all thoroughly enjoyed. But as this Christmas has been very different for us all. Turn Village Residents Association wanted to spread a little festive cheer and we would like to wish you all the warmest of greetings and all the best for the New Year.”
