Children welcome play area opening
A NEW play area for Staghills, Rossendale, Lancashire has been unveiled as the culmination of years of hard work.
Newchurch Village Community Association (NVCA) has been working with Rossendale Borough Council and Proffitts - Investing in Communities for several years to develop proposals and carry out fundraising for the much-needed facility.
Contractors Landscape Engineering Ltd were appointed to install new play equipment from Kompan Ltd and to create the brand new play area for the community of Staghills and Newchurch.
The project includes new play equipment for children and a new cycle track around the play area, off Staghills Road. The project has been funded by NVCA, Rossendale Borough Council, Lancashire Environmental Fund, Viridor Credits, Awards for All, Newground Together and Tesco Bags for Help.
Simone Cudworth, a member of the NVCA, said: “I am so pleased that we have been able to help our local families. Since it opened there have been children constantly playing and having fun which is so important at this time.”
A competition to design the sign for the play area was also run in conjunction with St Nicholas C of E School, with one winner and two runners up adjudged.
The association say a community defibrillator is also to be installed early in the New Year to complete the project thanks to support from Electricity North West, who have waived the cost of the electricity connection, and Lancashire County Council.
