Police officer injured in car crash

-

AN officer was injured after a suspected drink driver crashed into a police car.

The smash happened on the Edenfield Roundabout, near Ramsbottom, at about 3am on Monday, January 4.

Police say they were following an Audi along the A56 when the vehicle collided with a separate stationary police car.

A 37-year-old man from Rochdale was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Lancashire Police said the officer was not seriously injured.

Following the incident, the A56 slip road on to the roundabout was shut for more than an hour.

Pictures from the scene show the red Audi mounted on a barrier.

The car appears to have suffered extensive damage to its front end.

A recovery truck eventually lifted the car free before the slip road reopened at about 4.30am.

One resident living close to the scene said: “There was an accident, lots of emergency services responded. The area was lit up by blue lights, I hope everyone is okay.”
