Council urged to dish out support to firms
A COUNCIL has been urged to ‘act now’ to distribute £3.9m of business grant support after Ramsbottom’s MP claimed just 2.9 per cent of a government support package had been sent to struggling firms.
Bury Council was provided with £4m in November of last year by the government through the Additional Restrictions Grant.
The funding was to support businesses in Bury through the pandemic period.
MP James Daly said that only £96,000 of these monies have been distributed meaning Bury Council has approximately £3.9M in funds, which can be used to assist local businesses and traders.
Bury’s council leader, Coun Eamonn O’Brien said the council had followed the government’s own guidance on distributing the fund and had only been told to distribute the money more quickly on January 7.
