MP calls on people to ‘stick to the rules’

-

HASLINGDEN’S MP has issued a grim plea to the public to “stick with” lockdown restrictions to avoid our hospitals, surgeries and paramedics being “completely overwhelmed” in days.

Sara Britcliffe says the situation in London hospitals is “truly terrifying”, and must be avoided locally.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which includes Rossendale, recorded 31 new deaths to coronavirus between January 2 and January 11.

A total of 732 people with Covid-19 have now passed away under the care of the NHS in East Lancashire since the start of the pandemic.

As of Monday Rossendale has seen 4,661 cases of Covid-19 throughout the crisis.

Supermarket giants including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons have pledged this week to enforce face mask wearing in stores with some stores deploying extra trained security guards at entrances to “challenge” customers not following the rules.

St Mary’s RC Primary School in Haslingden has launched an appeal for donations of old laptops or tablets.
