PETER Steen, Leader of the Rossendale Conservatives, boasts in his Free Press column (January 8) that he was told by the national Conservative party that they intended to withdraw their controversial White Paper that strips planning control from local councils.

And that he was told this well before a Rossendale Council meeting at which the implications of this White Paper would be discussed.

So why didn’t he divulge this information before the meeting and save the time of councillors discussing the issue? It seems that the reason he held back this information was so he could use it to try to score political points in his column.
