Care home joy at the arrival of Covid vaccine
RESIDENTS at a Valley care home are looking forward to receiving the Covid vaccine within days.
Barley View Care Home, in Whitworth, has taken extra precautions during lockdown to keep Covid out.
The Market Street care home is now set to receive a batch of Covid-19 vaccination doses for residents after staff were vaccinated on January 8.
Resident Rita Ibbotson has lived at Barley View Care Home for 12 months, and is excited to get the jab.
Rita, 88, said: “The vaccine has to be right or they wouldn’t give it to us.
“I feel quite happy about it and glad they’re doing something to prepare us. I am looking forward to being able to go outside in the fresh air.
“I will be able to see my son face to face. Time flies and it’s very good here. You’re very well lookedafter, fed well, and all the girls make sure you’re safe.
“I talk to my son, Phillip, on the phone and I’m quite happy.”
Rita has been content to stay indoors during the lockdown. She added: “We can’t see anybody but that’s how it’s happened and how things go.
“It’s a dreadful situation that we’re in. We just have to grin and bear it. I just accept whatever is going on.”
Head of Care Jane Williamson is “very pleased” that the residents will soon be vaccinated against Covid-19.
All Barley View residents except one have opted to have the vaccine.
Jane said: “We’re getting our vaccines within two weeks for our residents and our staff are being vaccinated on Friday.
“We’re so pleased - we’re really pleased that this is the first step to the hopeful 2021 so we can begin to live a normal life.
“It’s a real milestone in moving forward. We have invested in a minibus so we can go out on trips.
“Once lockdown is over we will be going out and about. The residents want to go to Blackpool and eat fish and chips on the beach.”
