BUS FIRM’S OWN GOAL
YOU included a short - and meant to be amusing - comment from me in your report (January 1) about the new Rosso Rovers buses and I wonder if you could allow me space on your Letters page to expand on this a\ little?
First I’d like to give - unusually for me - my congratulations to the Conservative County Council for its investment in new buses, replacing the tired and unsuitable old ones used on Rosso’s less prestigious services.
Another ‘well done’ for resurrecting some of the much needed bus routes in Rossendale which were reduced or lost completely in recent years.
But I can’t help thinking that County have scored an own goal by naming the fleet after Blackburn Rovers.
I can forgive the Yorkshire-based management of Transdev for not understanding the traditional footballing allegiances in The Valley.
But I’m surprised that our local county councillors have let this name slip past them in a way which Nick Pope would never have let through.
With the Leader of LCC and at least two of our current local representatives at County Hall being avid Clarets fans I do hope this decision doesn’t rebound on them.
As for Transdev, I’d suggest that they don’t schedule the new fleet on routes to Burnley on match days, or they may find they need to buy replacement vehicles sooner than they expected.
