Farewell Captain Tom – a true hero

Captain Sir Tom Moore - the Second World War army veteran who inspired the nation by raising millions for

NHS charities last year - has died in hospital aged 100. His story captured hearts all over the country and led to him raising an astonishin­g £33million for good causes attached to the health service. Sir Tom had been taken to hospital on Sunday after being treated for pneumonia for some time, and testing positive for Covid.

Ramsbottom MP James Daly wrote on his Facebook page: “He was a truly great man and came to be the embodiment of hope in these dark times.”
