Waste bin ‘confusion’ cleared up

-

WASTE chiefs say ‘confusion’ over who should empty bins overflowing with litter and dog mess, has now been cleared up.

A disgusted dog walker in Haslingden complained the bins near the top of Grane Road and at the entrance to Victoria Park had not been emptied ‘for weeks’.

She told the Free Press on January 30: “I messaged Rossendale borough council last week; they said they would notify the appropriate department. In the meantime the poo piles up.”

The bins were emptied on January 31 following the complaint, and this week the council has got to the bottom of the delay.

The complainant added: “The bins have now been emptied on Sunday [January 31]. I was annoyed that it took over a week to empty after I had complained and that they should not had got in that state in the first place, especially when I saw a man empty a half full bin on East Bank Avenue just round the corner from these over flowing bins when I first contacted the council over a week ago.”

A council spokesperson said: “There had been some confusion between the Town Centre Caretaker and the litter bin driver over who was to empty the bins. This has now been resolved and going forward the Town Centre Caretaker will have the responsibility.”
