Park group urges artists to brush up on wildlife
A VOLUNTEER group is launching a new art scheme which encourages residents to ‘make things beautiful’.
Stacksteads Countryside Park Group, a volunteer group based in Stacksteads, has launched the project as a fun way to bring their community together.
The group, established in 2018, aims to improve its local environment by carrying out small scale projects such as litter picking, bulb planting and organising community events such as carol singing at Christmas and a Remembrance Day event.
For its latest project the group led by artist, Ruth Evans, is encouraging residents to paint plaques that depict wildlife that lives on their doorstep.
Plaques and acrylic paints will be distributed free and when completed they’ll be returned to the group for varnishing.
Once varnished the plaques will be displayed in an attempt to brighten up some areas of the village.
Artist Ruth, who has been painting for more than 35 years and who is inspired by nature in her work, is leading the project.
She said: “This is a rare chance for all ages to make some public art, and do something really positive in the current lockdown, even though we may be physically apart.”
