Online book firm stays in the Valley

-

ONE of the Valley’s largest employers has announced a relocation which allows them to stay within the borough.

WeBuyBooks - the online purchaser and retailer of used books - have purchased the 120,000 sq ft Lambert Mill (formerly known as Greenbridge Works and originally called Hall Carr Mill), off Bocholt Way, Rawtenstall. Over the next six months their 170-strong workforce will be relocating from their existing base in Waterfoot.

Grade II-listed Hall Carr Mill is three times larger than their existing facilities and this move will facilitate their expansion plans over the next five years.

The move was assisted by Rossendale council.

Hall Carr Mill dates back to 1830 when it was used for the wool trade, progressing to cotton and then in the 1930s changed to slipper manufacturing.

At its peak 500 people worked in the Mill and it featured in a BBC documentary in 1994 on manufacturing.

Mike Lane, managing director of WeBuyBooks, said: “It is a pleasure that as a 21st century internet business we can help bring this building back to life and be part of the rejuvenation of Rossendale. “
