Time to hit the trail!
AN orienteering event suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced is coming to Rossendale later this month.
The event, organised by Pendle Forest Orienteers (PFO), will be held at Stubbylee Park, Bacup on Saturday, April 24, and is suitable for all ages.
It follows a highly successful event held over the Easter holidays in which PFO teamed up with the new ownership of Rawtenstall Market and Rossendale School Sports Partnership (SSP) to put on three different trails.
The different length trails all started and finished at the market and took people around the town centre. The longest course even went up behind Ski Rossendale hunting for Easter signs placed on lamp posts.
Rawtenstall Market gave a gift bag to all of those that took their completed trails sheets back to them once completed. They estimate that they have gave out approximately 200 rewards. Rossendale SSP gave the first 50 to finish the course a special medal and entered all finishers into a prize draw.
A spokeswoman for PFO said a massive thank you was due to the market and the SSP for their support.
She said: “We can’t believe how many of the community young and old took part. Seeing families wander about having fun with our Orienteering maps was a great sight.
“To have hundreds of the community get involved in Orienteering, some of whom are doing their third trails with us since we started with the Halloween ones is such an amazing sight.”
Club organisers hope that those who enjoyed the trails continue to Orienteer and attend their free club nights on a Wednesday, 6-6.30pm via Zoom. These are run by qualified coaches and include fun Orienteering activities. All details can be found on the Facebook page.
