Samba stars smash it

-

DANCERS from Samba Dance and Fitness in Whitworth shone at the ‘Dance It’ Championships.

The girls, who are aged six to 18, competed in a British championships from Friday to Sunday, across Solo, Pairs and Team events in

Skegness.

Coming away with more than 80 trophies, medals and sashes between them, both of the teams topped their dance sections and placed second in the Show teams.

Proud Principal Samantha Clarke said: “They are more of a family than team mates. Each one danced amazingly at the weekend and as teachers we couldn’t have asked of anything more from them.

“After the last 18 months of not competing due to Covid-19, we did wonder if we would ever get to do this again.

“It was like we have never been away.”

She added: “The girls have come on so much and gave 100 per cent commitment during lockdown and, when we could finally return back to class, the determination from each dancer to compete was overwhelming, so to see them doing the one thing they love again on a large dance floor with hundreds of other dancers was very emotional.”
