ROSSENDALE Golf Club hosted a Charity Golf Day raising more than £7,000 in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

The event was organised by club President Brian Pickering who suffered the disease in 2012 after being diagnosed early aged 57, and is now recovered.

There was also much needed input and assistance from the Ewood Lane club’s professional Steve Nicholls.

The event was open to both members and visitors, and a total of 92 players competed as four-person teams in an 18-hole shotgun start competition. This included a ‘Beat The Pro’ challenge on the 13th hole.

Holly Morgan, a family friend of the President and a Teaching Professional at the Hallamshire Golf Club in Sheffield, was the professional for the day. Out of the 92 players who challenged her, only 11 players got nearer the pin than Holly.

The golf was followed by food and drinks in the clubhouse, with the day finishing off with the prize presentation and auction.

Among the fantastic auction lots was a Titleist Team Europe Ryder Cup golf bag as used by the players in the event, as well as a variety of signed shirts and memorabilia from the likes of Burnley, Manchester United, Manchester City FC and Leeds Rhinos.

The winners on the day were Steve Cooney, Gordon Clifford, Craig Beaven and Andrew Brooks.

The team of Bryan Hindle, Steve Leftly, Alan Morton and Gary Bannister won the par 5s prize, and Joyce Watson, Sandra McGauley (Lady Captain), Jean Pickering and Susan McAdam took the par 3s

award. By the end of the day it was calculated that around £7,404 had been raised for Prostate Cancer

awareness UK, a brilliant effort by all concerned.

Thanks must go to all the sponsors, including

local businesses and all who donated raffle prizes and auction lots for the day.
