Jake meets residents to talk of action on flooding

-

RESIDENTS in Irwell Vale met recently with MP Jake Berry and councillors to discuss the latest flood action developments.

Posting on his Facebook page, Mr Berry said he has been working with the Environment Agency and local residents on a flood protection plan for

Irwell Vale, Strongstry and Chatterton.

“These communities have a long history of flooding, with the most recent event occurring during Storm Ciara in February last year where 43 number of properties were flooded,” he said.

“The communities were also impacted in 2008, 2012 (twice), the

Boxing Day floods in 2015 and also in 2017.

“Unfortunately, there is no simple or easy solution.”

Mr Berry said the cost of the Environment Agency’s flood defence proposal is approximately £15million, but £10.5million of that has already been identified.
