Enjoy festive fun in the oven

IT’S that time of year when bakers in Rossendale dig out their recipes and plan their grand Christmas table centrepiece – the traditional Christmas cake.

Rossendale Hospice’s Christmas Cake competition returns this year, and they are hoping it will be even bigger than last year.

Those who purchase one of their Christmas cake kits can then enter into a competition for Best Dressed Cake. Simply send a photo of your finished masterpiece to the hospice to enter.

Bakers will have their cakes judged by awardwinning cake artist, and Rossendale Hospice supporter, Molly Robbins.

As well as helping raise much-needed funds for the hospice, entrants stand in line to win a luxury hamper worth £50 and this year there will also be a separate children’s competition for those budding bakers 16 and under.

Joanna Williams, community fundraiser, said: “Last year we sold almost 100 cake kits so we just had to bring it back again for 2021. We wanted to herald the Christmas season in with a fun competition for the local community.

“We had so many great entries last year so we’re hoping Rossendale bakers will rise to this competition again and help raise funds for us.

“We are extremely thankful to the Co-op in Waterfoot for sponsoring our competition and making it possible and also to Tesco Rawtenstall for their kind contribution of ingredients.”

The Christmas Cake kits, which cost £15, can be purchased by visiting the Rossendale hospice website or calling into the Hospice itself.

The cakes can be embellished

and decorated as classically or elaborately as each baker wishes – marzipan icing, dusted with icing sugar or an entire snowscape; the only limit on decoration

is the baker’s imagination.
