ROSSENDALE AVIATION SOCIETY
AFTER 18 months of successful online meetings the Rossendale Aviation Society has returned to ‘live’ meetings.
These have included a presentation by Mike Newell, a retired Thomas Cook Airlines Captain who told us of the highs and lows of his career and also spoke about airliner safety.
The Annual Recognition Competition took place, presented by Colin Duckworth and won by Martin Powell.
Martin also gave a presentation of aviation highlights in New Zealand.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday, December 1, and is taking place at the Rossendale Masonic Hall in Rawtenstall commencing at 8pm. Our guest is the author and engineer Nigel McKnight who will relate the story of the North American X-15, a hypersonic rocketpowered aircraft used in the 1960s as part of research into the American space programme.
The highest speed achieved by the aircraft was 4,520 miles per hour at an altitude of 19.34 miles.
All are welcome to join us for what will be a fascinating evening.
