Haygarth races to his first win of the season

- CYCLING DEREK SCHOFIELD

WITH Storm Arwen resulting in travel disruptions at the weekend, it was a depleted Rossendale cycling team that made it to the 5th round of this winter’s North West cyclo-cross series, organised by North Cheshire Clarion.

And the new venue of Betley Hall farm near Crewe was a complete contrast to Rossendale – no snow and a dry and fully rideable course making for fast racing.

Helmshore’s Dave Haygarth made the most of this opportunity to take his first win of the season in the V50 event, by just 20 secs after a race long battle with 2nd placed Andrew Brindle of Horwich CC.

Dave’s daughter Elsie kept up the pressure on the leaders in the Junior Women class, with another fine 3rd placing. And Graham Wright tightened his grip on the overall series, with another win in the men’s V70 class.
