Winning the fight against fly-tippers
GOOD news, if ever there can be such a thing, about flytipping in Rossendale. A recent report to the overview and scrutiny committee revealed that this year 44 reports of flytipping have been received.
A total of 26 people have been interviewed under caution and more than a dozen fixed penalty notices handed out.
Will it stop flytipping? No. Will it make people perhaps less likely to dump stuff here? Hopefully.
Rossendale councillors seemed to give officers a tough time when they were quizzed about fly-tipping action at a recent meeting.
Fair enough, that’s what councillors are there to do.
But credit where it is due, council officers have delivered on a promise to go after people treating Rossendale like a dumping ground, and hopefully it’s having an impact.
