KENDAL UNITED ........ 0 ROSSENDALE FC ........ 5

AFTER a postponement for snow and another for changing room damage at Storeys due to storm Arwen, league leaders Rossendale headed up the M6 for an away match against Kendal United.

On a very wet afternoon on a heavy narrow pitch Rossendale with four regular squad players absent produced a great all round performance to come away with a brilliant 5-0 victory.

Rossendale made a good start taking an early lead when Scott Wylie smashed the ball against the Kendal crossbar, the ball rebounded to Paul Stannard who fired home to give the Stags a deserved lead.

Rossendale continued to dominate and doubled their lead after several shots on target were blocked the ball broke to Wylie who fired home from a tight angle.

Rossendale were in complete control and scored a third before the break when Wylie turned provider with a great cross that was met by Tom Hulme with a brilliant header to give the Stags a thoroughly deserved 3-0 half time lead.

The second half turned into a dour struggle for both sides with the conditions worsening and the playing surface turning into a mud bath but on 70 minutes Rossendale put the game out of Kendal’s reach when another pin point cross from Wylie found strike partner Hulme who smashed the ball home to give the Stags a 4-0 lead.

And with the light fading and mist descending Wylie smashed home number five to round off a great performance from the Stags and another three points towards their goal of promotion.

A mention for young Ollie Williams who stepped up from the reserves and gave a flawless performance at the left side of the defence.

The win for the

Stags was made much sweeter when news came that second place Carnforth Rangers had drawn 2-2 with third place Burnley United to leave the Stags eight points clear at the top with a game in hand.

This Saturday Rossendale are at home to Freckleton currently the only team to take points off them this season the match kicks off at 2pm.
