VANISHINGLY rare are the occasions when any audience will sit for an hour with nary a twitch, wriggle or glance at a watch, but such was the situation at our last meeting at Ashday Lea when Peter Ormerod presented his ‘Mongol Rally 2018’, which convincingly confirmed his motto, “Say no to slippers” as he recreated, with professional level camera work, his journey from the UK, via Prague, to Mongolia, with seried support from family members and friends.

Driving a 1.2-litre 12 years old Renault Kangoo, he clocked up 13,000 miles (plus 7,000 on his return via Russia!)

He encountered increasingly hazardous conditions as he progressed East along much of the old Silk road, even after driving the wrong way up a notorious ‘Death Road.’

With dramatic use of drone and dashcam footage, worthy of prime time TV, Peter provided a gripping narrative of his achievement, not least the raising of £11,000 for the Rossendale Hospice.
