Book on Valley’s economic history to be reprinted

A LANDMARK local history study, ‘Economic History of Rossendale,’ is set to be republishe­d for availabili­ty next month.

GH Tupling’s 1927 analysis of the Valley’s long-lasting dual economy of agricultur­e and industry from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, is being reprinted by Carnegie Publishing.

It will be available at the end of January 2022, but copies can be pre-ordered until New Year’s Eve with the option of being named in the book as a supporter.

A facsimile of the original, the book will feature a new introducti­on and guide to further reading by historian and author on early modern England Prof. Roger Richardson.

Born in 1883, Tupling lived and worked in the Rossendale valley for most of his life.

Economic history of Rossendale will be a limited edition hardback, and 288 pages, with a cloth-type cover with goldblocki­ng.
