Children enjoy Rotary window dressing campaign
BACUP Rotary Club and Bacup Ladies Inner Wheel Club organised a Best Dressed Christmas Window competition and Children’s Emoji Trail.
This entailed shops putting an emoji in their window for children to spot and record. Letters were sent to shops throughout Bacup inviting them to enter the competition and 54 shops entered, with more than half decorating their windows. Each business paid a £2 entry fee, with some contributing more.
Letters and forms for the Emoji Trail were distributed to six Bacup primary schools. The fees enabled the organisers to award a prize to the winning pupil and school.
A panel of four impartial judges, visiting on December 11-13, were delighted with all the displays and thought that they enhanced their experience of the town during the run up to Christmas. The winner of the Best Decorated Christmas Window was Forget Me Not Florists, who received a trophy and £50, plus £100 donation to a charity of their choice - Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue. The personal cheque has kindly been donated to Bacup Pride. The Children’s Emoji Trail was won by Archie, from
Britannia County Primary School, who received a £15 gift voucher, a framed certificate and a £160 cheque for his school.
Rotary President Peter Steen thanked all participants.
