ALAW firm has made a flurry of donations this festive season to help a number of community groups in the region.

Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall Solicitors (WHN), which has eight offices across Lancashire and Greater Manchester, has helped spread Christmas cheer by throwing its weight behind six charities serving its office communities.

WHN has extended a hand of support to Haslingden Community Link, Rossendale Hospice, Bury Council’s fostering service, Accrington-based community welfare charity Community Solutions, Ribble Valley Food Bank and The Salvation Army, both based in Clitheroe.

A flurry of gifts including chocolates and fizz have been donated to Accrington’s Community Solutions for use as tombola prizes at its Christmas fair, while WHN has also made a £200 contribution to the charity’s ‘Care and Share’ campaign.

The campaign aims to combat loneliness and isolation throughout winter, with the charity putting together 600 ‘blessing boxes’ of uplifting gifts to help show affection to people struggling in the run up to Christmas.

In Haslingden, 100 selection boxes were gifted to Haslingden Community Link to help families facing a tough Christmas.

As part of a firm-wide initiative to get into the festive spirit, WHN competed in an inter-office bake off after donating £100 in exchange for ten of Rossendale Hospice’s Christmas cake kits, with a further £250 raised from cake sales.

Michael Shroot, CEO at WHN Solicitors, said: “It’s been an extremely challenging year for many communities across the North West due to the continued pandemic, so I’m proud of the effort our teams have made to extend a hand to those in need.”

l Lavender Hills Care Home raised £490 for Healing Little Hearts after hosting a Christmas raffle.

The charity enables lifesaving operations in developing countries.

All funds raised have also been match-funded and invested into the Ramsbottom home’s residents’ fund - providing extra trips and treats for their residents.

Staff at the home, part of the Millennium Care Group, drew out raffle prizes via Facebook Live.

Tickets were £5 and not only contributed towards a good cause, but one lucky winner landed themselves the star prize – a Mulberry handbag.

Home manager Stacey Astin said: “Healing Little Hearts is a charity set up by the surgeon that operated on our activity coordinator’s daughter; it is very close to her heart.

“We like to raise money for different charities throughout the year and are so pleased Millennium is matching the charity money raised for our residents’ fund.”

Organisers would like to thank Tesco at Haslingden and Bury, Emilia Rose, Goody New Shoes (in memory of Donald Fyldes), Rose Vale Mobile Tyres, Brewsmith Beer in Ramsbottom, Hot Tub Hire Company, It’s a Baby, Morrisons in Ramsbottom, Bewater and Lily & Grace Hairdressing.
