Residents to meet after planning defeat

-

GRANE Residents’ Association (GRASS) is holding a strategy meeting next week to discuss next steps after a controversial planning decision setback.

Rossendale council approved the building of more than 130 houses on greenfield land off Holcombe Road and Grane Road in Helmshore, last November.

More than 500 objections to the Taylor Wimpey application had been received and an online petition signed by in excess of 3,200 people against the plans - citing objections including flood risk, loss of wildlife and increased traffic.

The development control committee said they sympathised with objectors but warned that refusing the scheme would probably lead to an appeal which the council would likely lose and then face heavy costs.

Taylor Wimpey’s agent said the development would provide 131 much-needed family homes - “critical” to the borough’s housing supply.

GRASS is appealing for volunteers to help ensure planning conditions attached to the approval are met on time. The presentation and meeting will be held on Wednesday at the Holden Arms, Haslingden. Arrive from 7pm for a 7.15pm start.
