BACUP CAMERA CLUB

-

MEMBERS of Bacup Camera Club were recently re-invited to photograph the on-going work at the former Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank on Market Street, Bacup.

Under the expert guidance of Rachael Gildert of Valley Heritage, the organisation overseeing the restoration and conversion of the old bank, club members explored the basement with its former strong room and iron safe (sadly empty now) and the upper floors where self-contained apartments will be provided. The ground floor will be kitted out for temporary work stations and meeting rooms for hire.

Club members were also allowed to venture out onto the scaffolding that envelops the building for close-up views of the building’s mouldings barely visible from street level, and panoramic views over the rooftops of Bacup town centre out to the surrounding hills. It is hoped the works will be complete by late winter or early spring. The club’s photographs will provide Valley Heritage with a useful visual record of this major restoration and conversion project, that should become an important part of Bacup’s economic and social future.

Bacup Camera Club meets every Wednesday evening at 7.30pm at the ABD Centre, Burnley Road, Bacup. New members, no matter whether experienced or beginners in the fascinating world of photography, are always welcome. For more information please visit www.bacupcameraclub. org.uk.

ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

FOR our first bulletin this year, we can report on a very successful Christmas walk and lunch on Wednesday, December 22.

The walk itself was a local 7.5-mile one from Whitaker Park, with 35 walkers enjoying a rapid and bracing walk.

First we visited the Ski Slope, then it was down and up again to the Height before enjoying some festive food and drink at our mid-morning break in Crawshawbooth.

This was all worked off by a stiff climb to Cribden End and the Halo on the return to Whitaker Park.

In the afternoon, 37 sat down to a Christmas meal and quizzes in the Stables Restaurant at The Whitaker, to end a very varied and enjoyable set of walks since we started again after the restrictions were lifted.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our walks as much as we have enjoyed doing them, come hail, rain, or shine!

Our walk on Wednesday, January 5 offering a 10-mile walk from Cowling, taking us to the hitching stone and Keighley Moor, will be followed by a local 6-mile walk from Dunnockshaw, to be followed by a New Year’s meal in a local restaurant, on Sunday, January 9.

These walks are free, but after three walks with us we ask you to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.05 per month.

Further information about Rossendale Ramblers can be found on our website at www. rossendale-ramblers. co.uk, or you can contact us via secretary Glyn on 01706 561042, or at glynbr45@gmail.com
