DERRICK KENNEDY
MR Derrick Kennedy, of Patrick Crescent, Higher Cloughfold, died peacefully, surrounded by family at Willowbank Care Home, Burnley on Monday, January 3, aged 89.
Derrick started work at Old Meadows Pit in Bacup, then became an ambulance man, where he stayed for 30 years, before becoming a civil servant until retirement.
He was a Conservative councillor in the late 70s and early 80s.
He spent 30 years at St John’s Ambulance, as an officer and training the boy cadets.
Derrick was a keen reader, and enjoyed caravanning, the great outdoors and countryside.
He was a family man, and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Derrick had connections with Holy Trinity Tunstead and Waterbarn Baptist Church. He was married for 63 years to his dearest wife Dorothy.
He also leaves loving son Philip and daughterin-law Georgina, loving son Chris and daughterin-law Amanda, grandchildren Stephanie, Natalie, Christopher and Chloe, greatgrandchildren Amelia, Ava, Zack, Edryd and Huw. Brother of the late Beryl and Sylvia.
The service, led by Rev Derek Allen, will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Tunstead, Stacksteads on Wednesday, January 19 at 1.15pm, followed by cremation at Burnley at 2.30pm.
