Dedicated clean-up teams are pride of Valley

-

OUT and about at the weekend, sad to report that it would seem litter is a much bigger problem that it has been in the past.

We shouldn’t blame the council for this.

Do we really want the council to have to spend council tax on clearing up litter which we shouldn’t be dropping on the floor anyway?

I suspect some of you may have bristled at the use of the word ‘we.’

I suspect you don’t drop litter, nor do I.

But there’s an awful lot of litter around at the moment. Why is that?

How is it that as we’ve spent more time closer to home, we’ve ended up with more litter on the streets?

Shouldn’t it be the other way round?

The same too can be said of dog fouling – I can’t be alone in having to spend more time with eyes on the pavement to keep my shoes clean.

The council do their best when it comes to enforcement, but it shouldn’t take enforcement.

So who is dropping litter or letting their dogs foul and then leaving it behind?

Once again, a time to celebrate the work of the local Civic Pride groups in keeping our streets and parks tidy.

I’m sure they’d rather be spending their time enhancing the area with new flowerbeds and the like, rather than clearing up after people who are anti-social.

But thank goodness they are doing what they are doing.
