Two are ‘detained’ in bypass closures

TWO men were ‘safely detained’ by police following separate closure incidents on the A56 last Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Haslingden Bypass at around 1am following a ‘concern for safety’.

The carriagewa­y was closed in both directions from the Bent Gate Roundabout to the Rising Bridge Roundabout. National Highways North West confirmed the road fully reopened shortly before 3.20am.

A second incident was reported on the A56 at around 7.30am.

It resulted in another closure in both directions between Grane Road and Manchester Road.

Officers also shut Helmshore Road between Victoria Drive and Dean Road.

The incident was resolved shortly before 8am and resulted in miles of traffic and huge delays in the area.
