Back on track with a busy event calendar

A PACKED calendar of events has been announced by East Lancashire Railway (ELR) ahead of its reopening this month.

Train enthusiast­s can kick off their return to the railway with a chance to see Royal Scot at the Spring Steam Gala and couples can enjoy a Valentine’s dinner aboard one of the iconic Pullman-style carriages.

At half-term aspiring witches and wizards can gather at the ELR, for a day of sharing spells and magic themed fun.

Visitors, young and old, will enjoy an array of performanc­es from magical creatures before boarding the Wizard Express, for a two-hour round trip through the Irwell Valley of wonders.

Wizards’ Adventure

Day will take place on Wednesday, February 16, and the event returns for a selection of dates later on in the year: April 6, April 13 and June 1.

Dinosaur lovers will be able to have a close encounter with prehistori­c creatures before being transporte­d back to the Jurassic period on a steam train ride through the Irwell Valley.

Dinky Dinosaur Adventure Day will take place on Thursday, February 17 and will

return for dates later on in the year: April 7, April 14 and June 2.

The ELR will also be launching the world’s first pirate steam train, where children can earn their sea-legs learning the basics of map reading and singing sea shanties.

Pirate Adventure Day for half-term will take place on Friday February 18, and then the event will return for a selection of dates later on in the year:

April 8 and April 15.

Trainspott­ers will be able to enjoy ELR’s display of diesel locomotive­s as they hurtle up and down the railway. Other events include the Spring Steam Gala in late February and the Valentine’s Dinner, held on February 12.
