●●SOPHIE Lancaster killer Ryan Herbert paroled (see p4):

Anthony Mayers: They should never be freed Lucie ‘peach’ Harris: And I expect he’ll be given a new identity and somewhere to live, it’s disgusting! Life should mean life!

Tina Jackson: This poor girl and her mother can’t seem to get any justice. The creature who murdered this lovely girl should never ever see the light of day.

Jean Howarth:

Outrageous. Should be in prison for full term at least. Hope he doesn’t get special treatment on release.

Joanne Salt: Life should mean life

George Gansler: Keep them in, not let them out

Martin Schofield: Absolute joke, it’s sickening this should NOT be happening, I have no words. R.I.P Sophie forever remembered xx

David Crankshaw: Needs a petition raising against this decision

Christopher Paul: If you take a life you should spend life in prison

Tracey Cottrell:

Absolutely disgusting, should have been life, took a beautiful young girl’s life away system sucks

Kelboz Wright: Life should mean life!

Anthony Mayers: He should never be free never.

Vicky Roberts: So wrong, I hope part of his parole isn’t to return to the area

Hay J Steadman: So just Sophie’s boyfriend, friends and family that ended up with the life sentence then! This must be so upsetting for them

Alan Duckworth: Should never be released

Les Nuttall: Life should be life!

Deann Hilton: If you take a life away from someone’s

family you should also get life behind bars

Suzanne Donovan: This is outrageously wrong. Take the life of a beautiful young woman who had the balls to be who she was and only serve 15 years for taking that life away?

Joseph Dempsey: This day was always going to come unfortunately. Doesn’t make it any easier for Sophie’s family and loved ones though.

Sheila Hoyle: I’ve always said that a killer should stay in prison for the years the victim was likely to live were they still alive

Judy Taylor: OMG I hope he doesn’t come back here

Sarah Cook: Absolute joke.

Sarah Mayor: Absolutely disgraceful, he took her life he deserves to rot

Kath Scowcroft: Absolutely awful, so sorry for family and friends

Diann Lord: He’ll probably live for another 50 years or so! While Sophie’s came to a tragic end. The system is so wrong

Carolyn Watts: This was a vicious murder it wasn’t an attack. To kick and stamp on someone’s head resulting in their death is shocking. Where is the justice of 15 years. Her parents have to serve a lifetime without her. The system is too soft.

●●CHIPPIES could be forced to close as price of fish and chips set to soar to £12 (March 20):

Matthew Holstead: Might have a pie instead.

Les Nuttall: I’ll go and catch my own instead

Julie Collier Pilkington: If it’s cooked nice, taste nice I’d pay

Cheryl Louise King: I won’t be paying £12 at all, never !

Alex Chan: The cost of oil for cooking has shot up more than double at some places. Pretty much every take away that uses oil are starting to feel the pain. Wait till the cost of veg soars super high this year

James McLoughlin: Omg nah

Abs Shahid: Yes it’s true, fish and oil price have gone up but it is still profitable, not as much as it probably was a year ago but still worthwhile. Yes I speak from experience as I run a chippy in Helmshore and it is difficult. We make minimal profit on our fish hence why we have expanded our menu to include other items (not kebabs and burgers as we’re a chippy), and we’re still good. We have an amazing community around us in Helmshore and love serving them and the feedback we get is amazing. We currently charge £6 for a portion of cod/haddock with a generous portion of chips and I honestly doubt we’d be charging £12 for a portion anytime soon.

Peter Hurst: What bad news this is, you can’t beat fish and chips!

●●TRIBUTES to Chamber of Trade pioneer Audrey Nicholas (March 18):

Rachel Moody: RIP Audrey what a woman you was.

Sandra Smith: RIP Audrey, lovely lady, we had some good laughs and chats when I worked at the golf club...fond memories.

Wendy Szucs: RIP Audrey. Me and Amelia will both miss you so much. You was like a mum and grandma to both of us.
