ROSSENDALE 66 NORTHWICH 7

AFTER two defeats in conseccutive weeks at the hands of the top two sides in the North Premier league, Rossendale made amends with a ten try extravaganza at home to Northwich in a re-arranged game postponed from 19th February.

The result moves the Marls Pits club from tenth up to eighth in the table.

Curtis Strong opened the scoring scorching down the touch line on his way to the line.

A neat run from the opposition ‘22’ brought up the second for Lewis Allen with flanker Liam Canning picking up from a forward drive to add a third.

The bonus try fell to Liam McGovern, the full back jinking through before brushing off a last attempted tackle to cross under the posts, McGovern also landing three conversions coming up to the break, the visitors managing to sneak in a try and conversion to close the half with Rossendale 26-7 ahead.

Early in the second half Allen went in for his second with some slick handling creating the opportunity for the outside half.

Some power play by the pack opened the way for Kane Bevan to make it six, the scrum half in support to take the scoring pass.

Again good work by the pack, who were now in full control, got Rob Willetts over before Strong again, this time coming up on the inside to go in for the nineth .

It was left to Brad Cave to add the finishing touch chasing his own kick ahead to touch down close to the posts, McGovern again on target with a further five conversions.

This coming Saturday Rossendale are away to Macclesfield who are now just one place above in the table.
