Pub eggs-travaganza to spread Easter cheer
THE Boundary Dance is one of the key attractions of a host of traditional Easter Saturday celebrations in Bacup, centred around the market and Irwell Terrace.
There will also be a kids zone, Punch & Judy shows, face painting, street entertainment, fund & games, the Voice of the Valley,
Rossendale Ukulele Band and Rossendale Radio.
The New Inn in Bacup has also been collecting dozens of Easter egg donations throughout March to hand out to put a smile on children’s faces over the season.
Landlord Jason Cronin, who runs the Rochdale Road pub with partner Nicola Watson-Parke, said they are currently up to around 84 eggs, but are still inviting more to come in.
“I was hoping we can hit 100 eggs as it’s the first year we have done it, but I think we will get a lot more than that,” said Jason.
“We will be going out and delivering them to local children’s homes and hospitals. We can’t wait to see the kids’ faces when we deliver them. It’s always great to give back and be kind.
“It’s just a bit of community spirit and to give back after everything we’ve been through with Covid. We thank everyone who has donated so far.”
Jason added that the pub is one of the central locations for the Coconutters and said everyone has been hoping that the event can go ahead as normal as it is an important Easter tradition.
“We do all the food for them so we are the main pub for the day,” he said.
“Businesses have put donations in and are trying to fund the day for the traffic management.”
Fundraising over the past month has also seen the pub raise £1,500 for a new defibrillator which will be installed outside in due course.
“I couldn’t believe how quickly we raised the money,” added Jason.
