Centurion duo inspire Hassy

HASLINGDEN enjoyed a 160-run win at home against Greenmount in Division 1 of the JW Lees Lancashire League.

Hassy skipper Jordan Shannon won the toss and opted to bat first, Leighton Friend making 118 off 134 balls and Sehan Weerasingh­e 115 off 101 as the home side made 297 from their 50 overs, losing just four wickets in the process.

Chesney Hughes provided some resistance for the visitors with a knock of 74, but there was precious little support for him among the Greenmount batting line-up and they were all out for 137 in the 37th over.

Ramsbottom were beaten at home by Darwen.

Having won the toss and opted to bat, Rammy were all out for 185, Kieren Grimshaw (41), Senuran Muthusamy (52), Harry Caton (26) and Jake Walker (26 all contributi­ng as they set a target of 185.

Scott Friend (41) and John Cordingley (40) laid the foundation­s for Darwen’s

reply with Siddhesh Lad then hitting 62 from 78 balls to clinch it for the visitors, who made 186 in the 49th over with five wickets down.

Burnley won by 86 runs on their own patch against Clithroe after winning the toss and batting first.

Burnley reached 260-5 from their 50 overs, Liam Bedford hitting 98 and Ockert Erasmus 46.

Jack Dewhurst topscored for the visitors with 44 but Clitheroe were only able to reach 174 from their 50 overs.

At Towncroft, home side Middleton lost by two wickets against Lowerhouse.

The visitors elected to field after winning the toss, Middleton making 197 from their 50 overs with seven wickets down, Rhys Tierney top-scoring with 75 from 78 balls.

Ian Holland was most impressive with the ball for Lowerhouse, taking 4-46.

Benjamin Heap’s 83, Thomas Walker’s 32 and and Joseph Hawke’s 29 helped Lowerhouse survive and middle order collapse and earn the lion’s share of the points, the visitors reaching 200 in the 50th over of the game.

At Stag Park, Norden eased to victory against visitors Todmorden, who had won the toss and elected to bat. Andrew Sutcliffe (42) and pro Will Bosisto (41) looked in good touch but big scores eluded them and the team was all out for 144, Syed Zaidi taking 4-40.

Norden rattled off the target with Zaidi hitting an unbeaten 56 while Josh Tolley hit 38 and Hashum Malik 31.

Rochdale won by seven wickets at Walsden.

In Division 2, at Great Harwood’s Cliffe Park, Enfield won by 39 runs.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat. Openers Lewis Wright and Jack Cook went cheaply, but Zain Abbas struck 127 off 109 balls and Alfie Cook hit an unbeaten 109 off 137 deliveries. With a useful knock of 31 from Yasir Ali, Enfield set a target of 300 having lost just three wickets.

Several Great Harwood batsmen played their way in successful­ly, but only Matt Oddie with 77 from 95 balls surpassed his half century. Alex Kennedy (30), Thikshila De Silva (28) and Kasir Masood (45) helped make a fist of it, but the home side were all out for 261, picking up a couple of losing points.

League leaders Littleboro­ugh entertaine­d Rawtenstal­l and won by 122 runs at Hare Hill.

Boro won the toss and batted first, opener Zac Perren making an unbeaten 99 off 165 balls while Tom Pye hit 43 and Ryan Miskella 24, the home side making 230-8 from their 50 overs.

Miskella then shone with the ball, picking up 8-34 to reduce Rawtenstal­l to 108 all out in the 32nd over.

Church and Oswaldtwis­tle enjoyed a comfortabl­e 148-run victory against Colne, who were no match for the home side with the bat.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Church skipper Josh Scully put on 109 for the first wicket with fellow opener Craig Fergusson.

Scully reached his 50 from 86 balls before he was bowled by Geeth Kumara, but Fergusson stuck around for a patient 65 from 146 deliveries, during which time he was offered useful support from Levi Wolfenden (23) and Kelan Florentine (39), Church closing on 224 from their 50 overs.

Colne never threatened to get close to that tally, Lewis Rimmer top scoring for the visitors with 21 as they were dismissed for 76 in the 38th over.

Second-placed Crompton cantered to victory at home against East Lancashire, who had won the toss and opted to take first knock.

Having done so they put together a target of 196-9, Eli Smith top-scoring with 50 while opener Joe Bolton made 31.

Crompton’s opening pair of Jake Hoosen (39) and Denis Louis (83) put on 118 for the first wicket while Mohammed Jamal (45) helped them over the line for an early finish in the 35th over of the game.

At Nelson, Bacup picked up an away win, sealing victory by five wickets.

The home team had won the toss and batted first, reaching 204-8 from their 50 overs. Usman Tariq top-scored with 50 while Mohammed Basat made 32.

Sandun Weerakkody was the star of the show for Bacup, blasting 137 off 107 deliveries to help the visitors successful­ly chase down the total in the 43rd over.
