Film nights offer a reel good time

THIS week, we are looking at the Rossendale cinema scene.

Many people may not be aware that there are three venues in Rossendale that regularly screen films.

The Whitaker

Museum, in addition to the many varied attraction­s and activities on offer, also have a Film Club showing films aimed predominan­tly at adults and show films once a month.

You can combine a film with a meal and get a discount on your meal.

Past screenings have included Tosca, Miss Saigon and Taste of Cherry.

They also offer film nights that include a two or three-course meal.

The Whitaker will be screening the film Summer of Soul on Thursday, June 23.

Tickets are £7.50 with concession­s at £6.

The ABD Community Centre in Bacup have a community cinema showing films for all the family, and charge just £1 entry to ensure that the experience is affordable to all.

They also have themed film nights with drinks and refreshmen­ts available.

The recent Mamma Mia film night was very successful and they are looking to stage further similar events.

The ABD Community Cinema is running a free summer holiday film club for children.

The programme includes Bad Guys, Fantastic Beasts - The Secrets of Dumbledore, Sonic two, Doctor

Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Hotel Transylvan­ia three Summer Vacation.

The Bacup Cinema was originally sited at the Royal Court Theatre but its home is now St John the Evangelist church in Bacup, known as The Circle.

It is a community venue that offers a bar, café, pizzeria and event space. The cinema screens films for all the family, and are offered at £1 entry.

They will be screening Paw Patrol the Movie on Sunday, June 12, The Batman on Sunday, June 19 and their July programme will include Sonic the Hedgehog two and The Lost City.
