Chadwick handed the reins for Rams
MOVING into the vacant managerial chair at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium is former FC United of Manchester assistant manager David Chadwick.
Regarded by many at the breakaway club as a legend, the no-nonsense defender spent most of his playing career at the club since their formation in 2006.
He made 211 appearances in the red shirt, notching 24 goals.
Upon retiring from playing, the 45-year-old moved into the club’s coaching set-up and remained there until the beginning of this season.
He brings a wealth of experience and contacts to Ramsbottom as he has spent recent months scouting.
Appreciating the current situation at the club, he has accepted the challenge to prevent the Rams from returning to the North West Counties League. At the same time, should that not prove to be achievable, he has joined the club with a long-term vision in mind.
Chairman Harry Williams is delighted to welcome the new boss to the club.
“We wish David all the best,” he said.
“He came over very well in the interview and I expect his no-nonsense attitude to gel well with the players and everyone here at Ramsbottom.
“He knows he has a difficult short-term task ahead of him, but has the belief that he can take the club forward in a positive and successful manner.”
Commenting on his appointment, the Rams new manager said: “Ramsbottom United is a great club and after meeting them you can see it has not lost it’s passion for football.
“I’d be a fool not to try and help them get to where they want to be, and I’m looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”
David’s tenure commences on Saturday with a trip to Skelmersdale United.
Ironically, “Chaddy” is well known to Skem supporters – he was a member of the side under Tommy Lawson and was a very popular player at the then Stormy Corner ground, before moving on to play for FCUM.
The game against Skelmersdale preceeds a run of four successive home games kicking off with the visit of Clitheroe to the HWRS next Tuesday.
No doubt by then, quite a number of new faces both on and off the pitch, will be on show for the supporters desperately hoping for a change of fortune.
