Bike accident boy airlifted to hospital

-

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was airlifted to hospital after a bike accident.

The incident took place on Monday, April 3 at around 2pm. Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team were sent to the scene at Lee Mill Quarry in Bacup.

On arrival, crews found that the boy had suffered a suspected dislocated right shoulder after a bike accident.

An air ambulance flying in the area responded and arrived at the scene within five minutes.

The boy, who the team described as ‘brave,’ was then taken to hospital for further treatment. In a statement about the incident, a spokesperson from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team said: “Around 14:00 we had reports of a 12 y/o boy having had a bike accident in Lee Mill

Quarry.

“Some team responded direct to be first on scene to carry out an initial assessment where a suspected dislocated right shoulder was found. Due to the mechanism of injury it was decided to call helimed who were flying nearby and responded in five minutes.

“The team then packaged the brave young lad to get further treatment in hospital.”

RPMRT were also called to two incidents on Sunday, April 2. The spokesperson added: “On Sunday members hadn’t been back an hour when 2 callouts came out. The first job was reports of a lady walker who had a suspected ankle injury sustained whilst out on a group walk. The team quickly responded and after initial assessment gave pain relief, splinted her ankle and due to delays with ambulances, some of the group agreed to transport her to A&E.

“At the same time another job was being reported in Lee Mill

Quarry, Bacup. Thanks to our colleagues in neighbouring team Bolton, who assisted with responding to that job and dealt with the casualty being treated and transferred by helimed to hospital.

“At times teams can be stretched and it a brilliant testament to the joint working and close relationship we have with other statutory services and other MRT’s when we need to support each other.”
