AN adventurous marine will be running between three mountain peaks to raise funds for two charities.

Ben Clough from Helmshore, who is a serving Royal Marines Commando physical training instructor, is running the National Three Peaks; Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon.

He plans to run between 50-55 miles each day for 10 days, climbing a total of 47,592 feet.

The 28-year-old will start his challenge from Fort William on August 13 and travel a total of 482 miles to raise money for Mind and RMA – The Royal Marines Charity.

Ben joined the Royal Marines when he was 19 and says both charities are close to his heart.

The former Haslingden High School student said: “This will be the biggest challenge I have embarked on to date and I know this is going to be a bit of a beast, but I know I can do it and feel confident about it.

“I want to create awareness about the work that both charities do and it is very rewarding to do a challenge to raise money for them.

“Both charities are very close to my heart. The RMA help marines and their families and Mind help people with their mental health, which is super important. I know some of my mates who struggled with their mental health in the past.

“I want to do everything in my power to raise as much money as humanly possible and smash this epic challenge out the park.

“Any donations would be greatly appreciated no matter how big or small. Even a share of the charity page would be amazing!”

Ben, who was born in Burnley, is no stranger to arduous challenges.

He has done the World Record Speed March Attempt in which he travelled 26.2 miles on foot carrying 40lbs in boots.

Ben completed the 117 mile non-stop running Two Moors Way Covid charity challenge to raise funds for Macmillian and RMA - The Royal Marines Charity.

He also participated in three marathons on the same day for Christmas Paincave (Christmas Charity Challenge) and has done 5k ultra marathons.

Ben is currently planning his route and forming a team to join him on his journey.

He hopes to raise £48,200 in total and he has set up a JustGiving page where people can donate.
