ROSSENDALE RAMBLERS

-

IT IS UNDOUBTEDLY true that in recent weeks our Sunday (and Saturday) walkers have enjoyed much better weather than those on our longer Wednesday walks, and this week was no exception (pictured right).

On Wednesday, a lovely 10-mile walk from Gargrave was marred by heavy rain and very wet and muddy paths, so the beautiful villages of Calton and Winterburn were not seen at their best. Nevertheless, the 17 ramblers who bravely turned out enjoyed the camaraderie and the sense of achievement at the end.

On Sunday the sun shone all morning for 15 walkers on an interesting six mile walk from Hoghton, near Chorley, with abundant spring flowers giving hope for better weather to come. Coming up, on Saturday, April 20 we have a two hour pub walk from Edenfield that will visit Chatterton, where we will hear about the weavers’ uprising of 1826, which was brutally put down by local militia. At the end of the walk, those who wish can retire to the pub for an optional lunch. These very sociable walks are an excellent way to get to know us, so we hope to see you there.

On the following day there is another local walk, this time an eight miler from Heywood, which will showcase the interesting and scenic aspects of the area.

Finally, on Wednesday, April 24 we are in beautiful Burnsall for what promises to be a scenic delight – subject to weather, of course!

Our walks are free, but after three walks with us we ask you to join

The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.42 per month. Further information about Rossendale Ramblers can be found on our website at rossendale-ramblers. co.uk,or you can contact us via secretary Bernie on 07752 570 304, or at inforosram@gmail.com.
