Fiji came out on top in a battle of the islanders in the U20 World Trophy final in Bucharest, Romania. They thumped Samoa 58-8 to secure promotion to the U20 World Championship for the first time since 2014.
Fiji racked up nine tries as they capitalised on Samoa’s mistakes. Centre Vilimoni Botitu, who also plays for Fijian Drua in the Australian NPC, crossed for a brace while impressive full-back Nabetelevu Turaganivalu scored a try and kicked nine points.
Portugal finished third with a 67-36 win over Namibia, Uruguay beat Hong Kong 78-17 to come fifth while hosts Romania were bottom of the standings after losing 71-14 to Canada.
