If the cap fits… Box of memories

-

I’ve obviously got time on my hands but I have selected a side where everyone wears a scrum cap, limited to current players in the northern hemisphere.

I’m sure others can improve on this…

Leigh Halfpenny; Jack Nowell, Siale Piutau, Piers Francis, Cheslin Kolbe; Danny Cipriani, Edoardo Gori; Eddy Ben Arous, Harry Thacker, Harry Williams, Maro Itoje, Jake Ball, Wenceslas Lauret, Justin Tipuric, Zach Mercer.

Cup final, but I found the reaction on social media a bit OTT. Rugby can be almost narcissistic in giving itself a pat on the back when moments like this happen, as though they are unique to the sport when in reality there are examples of similar camaraderie across different codes around the world.

Rugby isn’t perfect – take the salary cap scandal – and I think it’s time it stopped looking down on other sports. adulthood, like the ability to take criticism and work together, as well as resilience. Youth sports are a place where kids can learn the balance between winning and losing. Parents should be aware of all these benefits.

Seeing RW reach its milestone 60th year in print gave me the perfect reason to open that box in the loft. Laying out the back copies kept there was a great trip down memory lane.

From my treasured first copy (Whetton Brothers, December 1989, bought when I was 15) through the wonderful Carling-led era of the early 1990s, the England success of the early 2000s and all the way through to the crazy world of Covid.

RugbyWorld has stayed the course and to this day remains my go-to magazine. I love the fact RW has such a history in the game. Please keep up the great coverage.

RW says: Thank you very much for the kind words.
