Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the Andes on 13 Oct 1972. Of the 45 people on board, 29 died.
Survivors were not rescued until 23 Dec after Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa trekked to Chile to get help. Parrado wrote of the experience in Miracle in the Andes.
