OVERTAKING JONNY

“I knew I was on the verge of breaking Jonny’s (Wilkinson) record (for most Test points), but for me there was no celebration.

“The Millennium Stadium is my favourite ground in the world and to reach a milestone there against the team I played my first Test against was very special, but I just ran back to halfway as we still needed to win the game – that’s the most important thing.

“Jonny took that record back, then I got it off him again (Carter scored 1,598 Test points in all). It’s probably something more in hindsight that I’m really proud of. It’s not why I played the game, to break records, but when you’ve finished and are looking back, it’s a nice achievement.”
