JUMEIRAH BEACH REOPENS

DUBAI’S landmark five-star, wave-shaped Jumeirah Beach Hotel has reopened after a five-month makeover.

Guests will arrive at a more airy lobby atrium with views of the fabled Burj Al Arab hotel and kinetic art installati­ons.

Rooms and suites will also have Burj views, a new beach and water colour scheme and Hypnos beds.

Food and drink options include D&A, La Parilla and Uptown Bar, the sea-inspired Villa Beach, Beachcombe­rs and Ocean Blue. Then there’s family dining hub Kitchen Connection with nine interactiv­e cooking stations for breakfast, lunch, dinner and the legendary Friday Brunch. Pearl Lounge will serve a pearlinspi­red afternoon tea.

Besides the Kitchen, families also get their own leisure pool with an expanded swim-up bar and a new Kids’ Club inspired by the underwater world. Guests continue to have unlimited access to the adjacent Wild Wadi Waterpark.

PORTAVENTU­RA (portaventu­raworld.com) theme park, near Tarragona in northeast Spain, has pledged to eliminate all on-site plastics such as straws and bubble wrap by 2020. This year, it has already moved to 100% of its electricit­y supply coming from renewable energy sources.

RHONE AND ON

RIVER cruise firm CroisiEuro­pe (croisieuro­pe.co.uk) will increase capacity on the Rhone next year due to demand.

From April it will go from three to four ships with the additional vessel offering seven and eight-day round trips from French cuisine capital Lyon.
