HAYES & YEADING WIN SIXTH GAME OUT OF SIX

UNITED MAKE IT SIX OUT OF SIX WINS AFTER ROMANIA ROUT

-

A CONVINCING 5-1 home win over FC Romania means Hayes & Yeading United extended their home league 100% win record to six games from six on Saturday.

The victory meant Paul Hughes’ side closed the gap on the leaders to four points with three games in hand.

Hassan Jalloh scored twice while Scott Bridges, Lee Barney and Toby Little added the others in a more than comfortable afternoon’s work.

Hughes was pleased but still critical as he looks to keep his side’s form going into the new year.

“It ended up being a good result and a deserved scoreline for us,” he said. “We deserved to concede that goal too. In the first half we were not urgent enough in our shutting down or our desire to transition into our shape when we lost possession. This has been a common thread for us in recent weeks, especially when we take an early lead. For this group of players to fulfil their vast potential, they must learn these lessons quickly.

“We have agreed, as a group, that we are going to commit to sticking to the personal standards we set ourselves in our own dressing room this season. If we fall short we will be accountable to each other. We know what those levels are and we want players to enjoy excelling and enjoy raising the bar for others to chase us.

“We currently sit in third with three games in hand and if we win those games then we go top.

“We’ve scored the most goals at our level of football and we’ve got the best goal difference in the country. It’s these standards we want to keep pushing and it is this pace we want to continue to maintain. It’s not easy but we all believe we can keep this momentum going because I personally don’t believe our players have hit top gear yet.”

Keeping pressure on leaders Marlow and Bracknell is key and Hughes added: “All in all, a 5-1 win at home is very healthy and it continues to put pressure on the two teams above us as well as the chasing pack below us.

“All we can do is maintain our levels and continue the pace we’ve set. If we do that, then whoever stays with us are very worthy opponents and we’ll relish that challenge.”

On Saturday they face their toughest test of the season in the last 64 of the FA Trophy with an away trip to holders Brackley Town of the National League North.
