Fire and explosion - Shoreditch

A suspected gas explosion at a block of flats in Shoreditch led to a huge fire and an entire wall being “blown out”. The flats in Tower Hamlets had thick dark smoke billowing from the block after witnesses reported hearing a loud bang on Thursday evening.

At its peak, there were 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters at the scene on Granby Street, off Bethnal Green Road. Flats on the third and fourth floor of an eight-storey block were on fire.

The incident was declared over in the early hours of Friday morning, at around 2.17am.
