Tory leadership battle is not democratic
THE two MPs vying for the leadership of the Tory party and, subsequently, to become the next prime minister, were members of a government that was judged and elected by the majority of everyone who was enfranchised and minded to cast a vote on the basis of its manifesto.
They are each now pitching a completely different manifesto that will be voted on by just 180,000 voters, all of them Conservative.
I think there’s something missing here – it’s called the democratic process.
