What a carry on: British comedy star Hattie Jacques married Dad’s Army actor John Le Mesurier at Kensington Register Office. They were married for 16 years and had two sons before divorcing. Gavin & Stacey’s Ruth Jones and Cold Feet’s Robert Bathurst played the couple in the 2011 TV film Hattie.

In sync: Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon first saw model Yasmin Parvaneh’s photograph in a magazine and tracked her down to ask for a date. They married in 1985 and have three daughters hters – Amber, Saffron and Tallulah.

The icing on the cake: Outspoken gourmet cook Fanny Cradock and her henpecked onscreen husband Johnnie were one of Britain’s earliest celebrity TV couples although they did not get around to marrying until 1977. Sir Terry Wogan called her “the lethal combination of Margaret Thatcher and Vlad the Impaler”.

Two’s company: John Lennon and Yoko Ono released 365 white balloons at his art exhibition You Are Here. They each carried a message asking people to write to the Beatles star. The couple married in Gibraltar and invited the press to visit them when they organised a “Bed-in for Peace” in their honeymoon suite in Amsterdam in 1969.

Picture perfect: Music star David Bowie and supermodel Iman Singer met on a surprise blind date in Los Angeles and got married in Switzerland in 1992. “You would think that a rock star being married to a supermodel would be one of the greatest things in the world,” he said. “It is.”
1998
Dream team: Victoria Adams, aka Posh Spice of pop group Spice Girls, caused a stir when she arrived with boyfriend Manchester United midfielder David Beckham at the Antonio Berardi show during London Fashion Week. Their wedding at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland the following year saw their then four-month-old son Brooklyn as ring bearer.

TV repeat: Presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan married in 1986 and became famous for their on-screen partnership on shows such as This Morning and Richard & Judy. They met when they worked on different shows at Granada Television.
