Mayor reads the royal proclamation

-

AS IN town halls over the country, Hillingdon residents heard the official proclamation that, with the passing of the Queen on Thursday September 8, the country has a new king, Charles lll.

Mayor of Hillingdon Councillor Becky Haggar read the proclamation on Sunday on the steps of the Civic Centre, in Uxbridge, to more than 200 people. When the event ended with the singing of the National Anthem, many were visibly moved by the new words, God Save the King. Many residents said how they wanted to be part of history.

Caroline of Ickenham said: “I had felt tearful when I heard Charles’ speech and after I saw the main proclamation on TV I thought it would be good to actually be present at the local announcement.”

Katherine from Eastcote said: “We sang God Save the King at church this morning and it made me just want to be here today.”
